In a previous career I was a mycology teacher. The lovely things pictured on this bowl are representations of the microscopic appearance of four different fungi. Most you would probably not have heard of it, but one is the genus Penicillium, from which penicillin was derived. The kinds of life that are all around us but that we never notice are legion, a strange kind of beauty but beauty nonetheless.
